Kicked to the Curb: Members and Background
Jim Cofer
Bass Guitar – Singer – I have always been an artist, have a degree in architecture, run a boxing and karate school and never gave thought about becoming a musician until I retired. Now I play the bass and sing for the band. I got lucky and got involved with some great patient musicians who are willing to mentor me, and we have a great time. I grew up when Bob Segar and Ted Nugent were local bands and while I was at Kent state Joe Walsh and the James gang were starting a garage band in Akron to pay for college. I was hitch-hiking one day when Joe picked me up in an old beater car.
Jesse Garcia
Guitarist – Singer – I’ve been around music all my life. My oldest brother played guitar since I can remember. Used to go to his gigs when I was very young. He brought home a drum set one day and taught me how to play. That started it all. Started a band with my cousin Steve and we went on for quite a few years.(Thanks Steve!!) Gary was in the band also and here we are again 40 years later! Thanks Gary!! Now..joined a band with some very fine musicians and friends. Once again a big thanks to Gary!! I am now carrying the music tradition with my daughter Jess who is now our vocalist! Loving it! Rock on everybody!!
Randy Storms
Guitar – Keyboard – Singer – I started taking piano lessons when I was in 2nd grade. The summer before 7th grade I mowed lawns to buy this acoustic guitar out of the Sears catalog. It took all summer long to earn the $39.95 advertised in the catalog, but 2 weeks later I got a letter from Sears saying the price had gone up to $59.95! I was devastated, but my mom pitched in $20.00 and my life was changed forever. That guitar had strings ½” of off the fretboard so I developed a pretty strong let hand playing it. In high school I helped form my first rock band, played tuba in the concert band, guitar and tuba in the pit orchestra for school musicals, and guitar in the dance band. I majored in music at Capital University as a piano major and then switched to a major in tuba while playing guitar in the university jazz ensemble, in a fusion-“Chicago” style band and a hard-rock band. Although I spent most of my career as an engineer, music has always been central to my life. I also write songs and compositions. My music can be heard here.
Curt Tyree
Drummer – I was born and grew up in Dover, Ohio. I started playing Drums at 9. My parents got me my first Drum set when I was 11. I would put on my Headphones and play along with my Rock & Roll 45’s! I played in the Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band and Orchestra during High School and fell in Love with all types of music. In 2004 I started playing Tympani & Drum Set with the Dominick Greco Band. I sat in with several Swing Bands over the years and left Greco in 2018. I got a call from Jim Cofer who was looking for a Drummer. At first I was hesitant, but my wife encouraged me to get back into it. While I’m the “New Guy”, so far I’m having a Blast!
